Salters’ Festival 2008
Once again the department has hosted the annual Salters’ Festival. Nearly 50 students from 11 schools
across the region attended an all day event. In the morning the schools participated in the Salters’
challenge where they had to identify the culprit from a crime scene using basic chemical reactions and
techniques to compile their own forensic report. In the afternoon, the University challenge involved the
schools trying to grow the best crystals possible, followed by an interactive lecture given by Dr Simon Jones
on “Nature’s Chemistry Set”. All the teams worked extremely hard, and congratulations went
to; Sheffield High School for first prize in the Salters’ Challenge and Honely High School for first
prize in the University challenge.
